It's becoming increasingly common to have multiple piercings in one, or even both, of your ears. But, once everything has healed and you can change up the jewellery, you might find it hard to work out which earrings will work well with each other. You'll also want to be able to make a statement, without your jewellery looking too over the top.
There are some hints and tricks you can use to stack your earrings in a stylish way, and we're going to outline our advice for you here. Take these tips on board and you'll soon have beautifully decorated ears that will bring a fantastic edge to your outfits.
Choose a colour palette and stick with it
When you're thinking about picking out a set of earrings for each of your ears, you might feel slightly overwhelmed by all the options and possibilities. But one way you can narrow things down is by choosing a colour palette and sticking to it.
The easiest way to do this is to decide on a particular precious metal you love, and then only choosing earrings that are made from it. Of course, costume jewellery that you find on the high street is likely to be more affordable, but it will also tarnish and could even cause a skin reaction if you're planning to wear your chosen earrings for extended periods. So, we would always recommend investing in some high-quality earrings made from precious metals instead.
Yellow gold or sterling silver are both classic choices. And even, if you do stick to a particular colour palette, there are plenty of ways in which you can add interest and keep things interesting. You can choose earrings in different shapes and sizes, as well as add the odd gemstone in there for an extra injection of sparkle.
Mix it up with different styles of earrings
A mix of all your favourite styles would work wonderfully — just try them on for size to make sure the combination you decide on isn't too over the top. Dangle earrings and hoops will work well for your ear lobes, while huggies and simple studs are ideal for cartilage piercings. Don't feel like you have to keep things symmetrical, either. You can decorate each of your ears with completely different jewellery — just make sure everything comes together to create a stylish and cohesive look.
Graduate from larger to small earrings
As a general rule, we would recommend wearing your largest and most statement earrings in your ear lobes, and then graduate to smaller and more simpler designs the higher up the ear you go. So, if you're a fan of hoop earrings, or you have some large studs on hand, it's better to focus these towards the bottom of your ears. Then plain studs and huggie hoops will work well as you move upwards.
You want your earrings to look balanced, which means the placement is important. Of course, you can have complete freedom and create any look you like, but we would recommend going with large pieces for and near your lobes, then adding smaller earrings towards the tip of your ears. Then you can move certain pieces of jewellery around until you're happy. This will just help to give you a good starting point, and prevent you from going OTT with your jewels.
Don't be afraid to add gemstones
If you're craving a little bit of colour and sparkle, why not add some gemstones to your collection of everyday earrings? Diamond earrings are a classic if you want to keep your earrings simple but stylish, or you can add colour with the likes of emeralds and rubies.
Rather than loading up with gemstones, we would recommend adding one or two bejewelled pieces to each of your ears. This will add a nice dash of interest, with being too much. You can always switch the gemstones out if you would like to go for a simpler look one day, or you need to change up the colour scheme to go with your outfit.
Try some different combinations until you're happy
The secret to stacking your earrings in a way that you're happy with is to try a few different combinations, and don't be afraid to make small changes as you go. And you can always invest in some new pieces if you think your current combination could do with some extra sparkle, an injection of colour, or a bit of balancing out.
