Your wedding day is bound to be one of the most exciting and fun days of your life, but it does tend to take plenty of planning. While you might have already selected your venue, picked your colour scheme, and found the perfect dress, you don't want to forget the little details that can make a big impact.

Jewellery can really tie your bridal look together, so you won't want to neglect setting aside time to pick out the perfect pieces. If you've not yet started the hunt for your wedding jewellery or are finding it difficult to know what to look for, you're in luck! In this blog post, we'll be discussing our top tips to help you.

Balance pieces with your dress

Although your dress will be the main attraction, getting some jewellery that nicely balances it out can take your bridal look to the next level.

If you've opted for quite a busy wedding outfit with lace or embellishments, pairing it with some bold statement jewellery could look a little too chaotic and distract attention away from your dress. Instead, investing in pieces that are simpler will ensure you're still adding some sparkle to your outfit. This could be anything from a diamond tennis bracelet to a fine chain necklace.

If you've chosen a simpler style of dress, and are looking to add some detail with accessories, you can afford to get a bit more inventive with your jewellery choices. A statement coloured gemstone and diamond necklace could be the perfect touch, or maybe a pair of fancy drop earrings. Whatever you choose, make sure you don't overload your look with too many statement pieces.

Consider your dress design

The pieces that will work best with your dress will also depend on the design of it, particularly your sleeve length and your neckline. For example, if you've got your heart set on wearing a beautiful diamond bangle, but you've got long lace sleeves, piling accessories on top of your dress can look out of place. Instead, opting for a necklace or some dazzling earrings could be a better option.

If you're wanting to impress your guests with a gorgeous necklace, you'll want to make sure your neckline allows for one. Usually these look best against Bardot, square, or sweetheart necklines where there is excess space to fill. If you've opted for a high neck dress or have a busy lace overlay at the top of your dress, you'll want to avoid necklaces and go with other pieces like bracelets or even brooches.

Match the metals to your dress

If you typically tend to mix metals or are struggling to choose between the different types of gold or silver, looking at the undertones of your dress colour can help.

For example, a pure white dress will work best with cool-toned silver, white gold, or platinum jewellery, whereas an ivory, champagne or pink-toned dress will look best paired with warm metal hues like rose gold and yellow gold jewellery.

Think about the hairstyle you'll wear

Before you begin picking out pieces, you might also want to consider what type of hairstyle you'll have for your big day. If you're planning on wearing it all down or partly down, it's likely your ears will be partially covered, so investing in some showstopping earrings that will be hidden won't make much sense. That doesn't mean you'll have to sacrifice wearing earrings altogether, but some simple studs will be more than suitable.

If you've given your hairdresser the challenge of creating the perfect bun or updo, any earrings and necklaces you choose will be nicely visible. So, make the most of it, and accessorise!

Something old, something new…

You've heard the saying "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" as a seal of good luck for the big day. But if you're still in search of that "something old" and don't have any family heirlooms to wear, why not put your own twist on the phrase? You could either buy yourself some new jewellery that can be handed down future generations, or invest in some pre-owned jewellery that has some history about it for that extra bit of good luck.

If you're on the lookout for your "something blue", why not choose some stunning sapphire jewellery to represent that purity, love, and fidelity?

If your big day is on the horizon, make sure you don't forget to take the time to find the perfect jewellery to complete your bridal look. Here at Ramsdens Jewellery, we stock everything from bangles, to pendants and rings, as well as diamond jewellery that'll give you that extra sparkle on your wedding day.
